The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a beautiful 27" Walleye, which was caught by one of the Wigwam Resort's guests, Bob "The Mayor" Burns.

Bob resides in Caledonia, MN.

Bob was fishing with a few friends, "The Hardin Group", when he latched into this big bugger.  He was fishing with a Fire Hook with a Split Shot and Bobber.  The quote from the three group members was "it was easy all the way".  I'm glad to here that it was that easy guys.  Bob, I hope that you and everyone in your group had a great time while visiting us at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.  We look forward to seeing you all back in the very near future...thanks agian.

Catch of the Day January 20, 2010

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a beautiful 40" Northern Pike, which was caught by the Wigwam Resort's own, Jake "of the Woods" Magness.

Jake is originally from the Fargo, but now he resides behind the Wigwam with "The Surgeon".

Jake was out fishing with a couple buddies when he hooked into this big bugger.  He didn't disclose location, or what he was using...he's playing this one pretty close to his chest, but the "Big Pine" in the back ground kind of gives it away...haha.  All I have to say is that I'm jealous!

Catch of the Day January 10, 2010

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a beautiful 40" Northern Pike, which was caught by the Wigwam Resort's own, Kevin Marchuk.

Kevin resides in Rainy River, ONT Canada.

Kevin was fishing with a few friends yesterday afternoon out by Burton Island, just into Canadian waters when he hooked into this big boy.  It was a great fight and an even better picture.  Kevin and his friends also picked up a 30" Walleye, which I should have the picture later today.  Kevin didn't disclose what types of lures he was using, but I have an idea of what it was.  I've seen some great fish come out of Lake of the Woods so far this season and we only expect it to get better every day from here on out.  Nice fish Kevin, maybe next time you can invite me...haha.

Catch of the Day January 8, 2010

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice 30" Walleye, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, Rich Mohs.

Rich resides in Avon, MN.

Rich is visiting us with some friends from his area and they are having a blast.  When I saw Rich this morning he was grinning from ear to ear, and he was eager to share his "Big Fish" tale.  Rich was using a Weasel White lure with an orange strip (Glow).  They were fishing in one of the Wigwam Resort Ice Houses in 28 feet of water.  This was a total group effort, Mark Widman landed the fish with help from Jerry Carron "the virgin ice fisherman".  Rich and the group were very excited to see this huge Walleye come up the hole, because as I alluded to in the previous sentence, this was Jerry Carron's first time ice fishing.  As I talked with Jerry last night, he was very excited to see if he could pick up one of these Lake of the Woods "wall mounters".  I wish you all the best of luck today in your quest for the "ONE"!

Tom is the owner of the Wigwam Resort and resides in Baudette, MN.

Tom was taking a few relaxing days off with his wife Nina, when he hooked into this monster Walleye.  He wouldn't disclose his "secret location", but I know it was up north by their cabin on Little Oak Island.  Tom and Nina also found a nice little Crappie hole and came home with a nice bucket of Crappie, and I'll tell you what, they sure tasted fantastic last evening for dinner...thanks Tom and Nina.  What an awesome fish to catch on your day off...NICE!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice 29.5" Walleye, which was caught by the Wigwam Resort's own Shane Burk.

Shane resides in Baudette, MN.

Shane was fishing in the "Wigwam Office" out on the ice when he was lucky enough to hook into this monster Walleye.  Shane caught this monster on a 12 sided Gold Jig aka "Disco Ball" with a fat head minnow head as bait.  The office is located west of the "Big Pine" on Pine Island in 27 feet of water.  Shane was actually on the phone with Colleen from the Main Office and giving her a fishing report when it clamped down and took the bait.  What an awesome fish to catch on your day off...NICE!

Catch of the Day January 1, 2010

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a gorgeous 28-1/2" Walleye, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, Jim Williams.

Jim resides in Rockford, IL.

Jim was visiting us with his good friend "Mike West", also from Rockford, IL when he hooked into this big bugger.  Jim was fishing with a Genz Worm with a live minnow in 24 1/2 feet of water.  The story behind the picture is this; after catching plenty of great eater sized fish, Jim saw the bobber drop like a rock.  As soon as he set the hook, he looked over and told Mike "I'm going to need your help".  After a long fight his heart pounding and knees knocking, Mike was able to get this beauty through the hole...what a rush!  Jim just wanted to also say that "the Wigwam provides tremendous fishing and great hospitality, top to bottom a great vacation destination.  Special thanks to Kevin, Doug, Shane, JP and the rest of the crew".  I just wanted to personally thank Jim and Mike for visiting us this past week, while they were Ice Fishing at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.  I look forward to seeing them back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

Catch of the Day December 28, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice big fat 40" Northern Pike, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, Dan Wacker.

Dan lives in Albertville, MN.

Dan was fishing with his family and family friends when he hooked into this big bugger.  Dan caught this monster at 11:30 am, on December 28th.  It hit on a size 6 frosty crappie jig.  The story behind this goes as follows: Dan was jigging and a mark on his Vexilar came racing up for his lure, but he missed the hit, and then his uncle yelled "your bobber"...he set the hook and the fight was on. It took 20 minutes and two poles going in the hole before they got that beast up. After the madness they had retrieved everything except 1 bobber. When they finally got his head above the ice he start going nuts and Dan actually laid on top of the fish and hugged it so it didn't go back down the hole.  They measured it, took a few pictures and tossed her back into the lake to be caught another day...Dan says, Thank you Wigwam!  I just wanted to personally thank Dan and his family for visiting us this week, while they were Ice Fishing at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.  I look forward to seeing them back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice big fat 28-1/2" Walleye, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, Shane Fukushima.

Shane is the Assistant Coach of the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL, and resides in Waterloo, IA.

Shane was visiting us with another assistant coach in Waterloo, Chris Sislo, while they were taking a look at the local hockey talent in Warroad this week.  Shane caught this big bugger just as the sun was setting in the west at about 4:45 PM in 20 feet of water while there were fishing in a Wigwam Ice House.  He caught it on a Gold/Pink jig with a full fathead minnow.  They had a great time up here while they caught fish, and learned a little bit about Lake of the Woods and everything she has to offer.  I just wanted to personally thank Shane and Chris for visiting us this weekend for early Ice Fishing at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods, and I look forward to seeing them back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a beautiful 27-3/4" Walleye, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest and Father of the Wigwam Resort's own Dillion McWherter, Ron McWherter.

Ron resides in Dassel, MN.

Ron was visiting us and his son (Dillion) this past weekend with one of his friends.  While fishing out of one of the Wigwam Resort ice houses, Ron latched into this Monster and it was a welcome surprise.  Ron was fishing with a "Stop Sign" lure and using a Fathead as bait in 20 feet of water just on the west side of Pine Island.  As Ron set the hook, he looked over at Dillion and said, "Daddy's got a big one", and he was right. I just wanted to personally thank Ron and his friend for visiting us this weekend for early Ice Fishing at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods, and I look forward to seeing them back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a 52" Sturgeon, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, Wally Hakala.

Wally resides in Cromwell, MN.

Wally is currently visiting us with his son Matt and some friends.  He hooked this big bugger on a Pink Airplane Jig in 24 feet of water just west of the big pine on Pine Island, while fishing with the Wigwam in one of our fish houses.  This was an exciting moment for Wally, because it was the biggest fish he has ever brought in...what an awesome fish...congrats!  I just wanted to personally thank Wally and the entire Hakala Group for visiting us this weekend for early Ice Fishing at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods, and I look forward to seeing them back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a 30" Walleye, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, John Vinck.

John resides in Medina, MN.

John was visiting us with his crew "The Jason Nelson Group (IDO)" from Medina, MN and Albertville, MN.  John caught this very nice Walleye in 21 feet of water on a Gold Buckshot with a Minnow Head.  During the day this 30" Walleye wasn't the only tournament fish they caught...they also hooked into a nice 28 1/4" Walleye...nice fish gentlemen, nice fish.  Both fish were released back into Lake of the Woods so that one of us luck souls might have the opportunity to hook into them some day down the road.  I just wanted to personally thank the John and the entire Jason Nelson Group for visiting us this weekend for early Ice Fishing at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods, and I look forward to seeing them back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

Catch of the Day December 12, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a 27-1/4", 7 plus pound Walleye, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, Matt Johnson.

Matt resides in Hinckley, MN.

Matt was visiting us with his father and some family friends this weekend, whom are also Hinckley residents. Matt was using a Green Glow Chubby Darter and was fishing in 16 feet of water when he hooked into this big bugger. There is also a funny story that accompanies this fish tale...here it goes.  Matt's father was sitting very diligently in the ice house when, he noticed the bobber drop and he immediately set the hook, only to have the line break.  This was the second time in as many days that he had a very nice fish on, only to loose it to a broken line.  Not even two minutes later, Matt set the hook on this beautiful Walleye, and low and behold, when he lifted it through the hole, the Walleye had Matt's father's Perch colored lure in its mouth.  Mr. Johnson wasn't able to pull in the fish, but being a very avid fisherman myself, I can only imagine the surprised feeling that was flowing through him when he was able to recover his lure.  Also, I'm sure he was pretty darn impressed with Matt for brining in the fish that had just moments before, robbed him of his lure.  I just wanted to personally thank the Johnson's and there friends for visiting us this weekend for early Ice Fishing at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods, and I look forward to seeing them back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a 25-1/2" Walleye, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, Tyler Miller.

Tyler was visiting us with with some of his friends from the Andover, MN area.  I didn't get all the details about the lure, bait, etc, but I did find out that they were fishing on the southwest side of Pine Island in 18-20 feet of water.  I just wanted to personally thank Tyler and his crew for visiting us this weekend for early Ice Fishing at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods, and I look forward to seeing them back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a 25" Walleye, which was caught by a Wigwam Resort guest, Mark Werner.

Mark resides in Northfield, MN.

Mark was visiting the Wigwam Resort with the Steve Fuchs Group.  Mark and his crew were fishing out at Knights Reef when he was hook into this nice Walleye.  Mark was using a Chartreuse 3/8 oz jig with a Frozen Shiner as bait. The weather was again, a little undesirable with the high winds, but they were able to hang in there as catch some nice Walleyes.  Mark is an avid fisherman, and I'm sure this catch will be followed by many more as the years past.  I wanted to thank Mark personally for visiting us, and I look forward to seeing you back in the near future...thanks again and Happy Fishing!

Catch of the Day November 5, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a 26 1/2" Walleye, which was caught by the Wigwam Resort's own Jean-Paul Tessier.

Jean-Paul resides in Baudette, MN.

Jean-Paul was fishing with the Steve Fuchs Group and they were fishing up at Knights Reef when this big bugger took a bite at his White/Blue Jig with Frozen Shiner.   It only took about 5 minuets after they got to Knights to catch their first fish, which was a 25 inch Walleye, and only another 5 minuets before this big guy hit.  Even though the weather was nice and cold, everyone had a blast, and Mr. Steve Fuchs is bringing back a few more guests this weekend to see if they can experience the same type of fishing.  I'm sure this catch will be followed by many more as the years past...at least I hope so...haha.

Catch of the Day October 31, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was nice 25" Walleye, which was caught by one of the Wigwam Resort guests, Jeff Decker.

Jeff was visiting us from Wyoming, MN.

Jeff was visiting us with his good buddy, Joe Wagner from Rosemount, MN.  This big Walleye hit it hard and there was no denying that.  While fishing on the Rainy River this past Saturday, the duo was dressed for the less than desirable conditions, which was a must, and they also armed themselves with another great weapon, awesome attitudes.  I am a firm believer that your attitude can make or break any experience, and as stated earlier, these two wouldn't let anything get them down.  Jeff and Joe were fishing in the Rainy River down by the Baudette Airport in 16 feet of water.  Jeff was using an Orange 3/8 oz. jig with a frozen shiner as bait.  There were a few big fish caught that day, but none bigger than Jeff's 25" Walleye, which earns him the "Catch of the Day" honors.  I hope that this catch will be followed by many more as the years past...thanks again for choosing the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods and we (the entire staff) will be anxiously awaiting your return in March.

Catch of the Day October 20, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was AWESOME 29" Walleye, which was caught by one of the Wigwam Resort guests, Alan Cook.

Alan is visiting us from Roland, IA.

Alan was visiting us with a few friends from IA last weekend when he hooked into this big bugger.  There is a very interesting story behind this catch and here is goes.  About 30 minutes prior to catching his 29" walleye, Alan retrieved his rod/reel from the bottom of the lake. A smaller walleye surprise him and pulled the rod out of his hands while he was bringing up his line to check his bait. We were anchored and after a while Alan caught his rod and reel, with the smaller walleye still on. He re-baited and proceeded to catch the 29" walleye. Three years ago, Alan lost the same rod/reel when another fish struck unexpectedly. That time, Craig snagged the rod, but without a fish on. It was suggested that Alan mount the 29" walleye, along with the rod/reel, but he chose to release the walleye, to be caught another day.  I hope that this catch will be followed by many more as the years past...thanks again for choosing the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.

Catch of the Day October 18, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was nice 23" Walleye, which was caught by one of the Wigwam Resort guests, Craig Amenson.

Craig is visiting us from Story City, IA.

Craig is visiting us with a few friends and from our conversations, it sounds as if they are having a fantastic time on Lake of the Woods.  Craig caught this nice Walleye in out from Morris Gap in 23 feet of water.  Craig was using a white jig with a frozen shiner as bait.  Frozen shiners are to Walleyes, like candy is to a baby...the Walleyes can't resist them.  On the same day one of Craig's fishing partner "Alan Cook" hooked into a 40 plus inch Sturgeon, which must take honorable mentions on today's Catch of the Day.  You can see the picture of Alan's Sturgeon on our Picture Gallery for Fall and Spring.  I hope that this catch will be followed by many more as the years past...thanks again for choosing the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was AWESOME 28 1/2" Walleye, which was caught by one of the Wigwam Resort guests, Brandon Van Overbeke.

Brandon and his family were visiting us from Marshall, MN.

Brandon was visiting us with his father an family friends when he hooked into this monster Walleye.  They were fishing out from Morris Gap.  Brandon plans to put this on the wall with a few others that he has caught and mounted during his young life.  It is great to see youngsters so enthused about fishing and being with family.  Once again, it reminds me of my upbringing, and it sheds great light on our future...I love it!  I hope that this catch will be followed by many more as the years past...thanks again for choosing the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods and see you back here very soon.

John aka "Jack" is from Duluth, MN.

Jack as I stated earlier is a longtime patron of the Wigwam Resort and I want to thank you for your loyalty throughout all the years.  John caught this beauty on a white jig with a frozen shiner as bait.  All I can say is...Great Looking Walleye!  They Walleyes are starting to fatten up a little bit by feeding on the shiners that are working their way into Rainy River.  This is the season for massive trophy fish on Lake of the Woods and I think that we are just starting to see the beginning of the BIG ONES.  Thanks again for being our guests on Lake of the Woods, once again, the BEST FRESHWATER FISHERY in the WORLD"!!!!

Clayton is currently fishing in the Fall North Star Classic Fishing Tournament that we are putting on at the Wigwam Resort and he is fishing with his pal Robert "Hoss" Reige.  This beauty was caught within the first 5 minuets of the Tournament...on his first bite...nice...I like it when a plan comes together.  They were fishing in Four Mile Bay right around one of the markers (he wouldn't tell me which one though...I might find out today after the tournament).  I know that they were anchored and jigging all day, but didn't get the color of the jig from Clayton.  I know that they were also using frozen shiners as bait.  This is not the first time Clayton has caught the fish that was named "Catch of the Day" at the Wigwam Resort and I doubt it will be the last.  Clayton, I hope that you and Hoss had fun in the cold and rain, best wishes on the tournament (they are currently in first place).  Thanks again for being our guests on Lake of the Woods, once again, the BEST FRESHWATER FISHERY in the WORLD"!!!!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a very nice 26" Walleye, which was caught by one of the Wigwam Resort's guests, Brad Onstad.

Brad is from the Twin Cities area.

Brad was fishing with a couple friends, John Gilbertson and John Keran when he hooked into this beauty Walleye.  He was fishing a few hundred yards west of the green marker in Four Mile Bay, right in front of the Wigwam Resort.  He was using a hammered silver lure with a crawler as bait.  This was the biggest fish brought in the boat by the trio this week.  John Gilbertson was able to hook into a very large Sturgeon, but the line snapped just as they were brining it into the boat and they lost it...what a bummer...that would have taken some great pictures.  John Keran was able to bring in a 20 1/2" Walleye...that's a nice fish also.  I hope that all of you had fun and enjoyed your fishing on Lake of the Woods...the BEST FRESHWATER FISHERY in the WORLD"!!!!

Hogan is from Lake Elmo, MN.

Hogan, an energetic 8year old, was fishing with his Father, Doug Lovett, when he got a nice little surprise, complements of Lake of the Woods.  Hogan said that his Dad gave him the rod and told him to fish in a certain spot on the boat, which Doug had just left.  Hogan caught the Northern Pike on a jig with a frozen shiner while he was fishing for Walleye in Four Mile Bay...THE BIG FISH ARE ON THEIR WAY INTO THE RIVER!  The Northern Pike put up a great fight and had Hogan talking about it all morning.  I love to see when youngsters get enthused about their catches.  I think we have found ourselves a life long fisherman with Hogan.   Hogan, I want to personally wish you all the best in your quest for that next BIG FISH!  I hope you will love the chase as much as I love it...your next BIG FISH will keep you coming back time after time.  I hope you and your Father had a great time while staying with us at the Wigwam Resort, and I hope to see you guys back very soon.  I can't state this enough..."Lake of the Woods is the BEST FRESHWATER FISHERY in the WORLD"!!!!

Catch of the Day August 22, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice little 38", 17 pound Northern Pike caught by the Wigwam Resort's own, Jean-Paul Tessier.

I was fishing with a friend up in the Northwest Angle when this monster hit the line...my heart was pumping at a quicker than normal pace for about an hour after I landed it.  I thought that I had a snag...it was a nice little surprise when the snag started to move...haha.  I unfortunately have been sworn to secrecy about the exact location, because it is Dick Myers "Secret Spot".  Dick, your secret is safe with me.  I caught this little guy on a hammered gold spinner bait that I purchased at the "Log Cabin" store right down the road from the Wigwam Resort.  This Northern to date is the largest fish I have ever caught on Lake of the Woods and it was sure a pleasure to do battle with this monster.  I know there are plenty bigger fish in Lake of the Woods, but for now this will do.  I hope to someday land this guys Great, Great, Great, Grandfather...I might be waiting my entire life, but it is part of all the excitement, and what brings me back to the lake everyday.  I can't state this enough..."Lake of the Woods is the BEST FRESHWATER FISHERY in the WORLD"!!!!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a beautiful 23" Walleye. This monster Walleye was caught by one of the Wigwam Resorts guests, Dustin St. Arnold.

Dustin is from the Brainerd, MN area and is visiting us with his Father and friends.

Dustin, his Father and friends were fishing with the Wigwam Resort's own Billy Kloos.  Dustin was able to hook into a couple nice fish, but nothing bigger than this beauty.  They were slow drifting and trolling up by Garden Island and Little Oak Island when Dustin set the hook.  It is great to see more and more of the Father/Son duos visiting us at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods this year.  I hope that this is only the start of a great trend, which I was worrying might be slipping.  I hope Dustin and his Father had a blast...it reminded me so much of me and my Father from back in the day on Rainy Lake.  I hope there are many more fishing trips in your future.  I hope that all of your expectations were exceeded while visiting us this time around.  Take care and thanks again for choosing the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods for your vacation destination!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a beautiful 31" Walleye, weighting in at a whapping 12 pounds. This monster Walleye was caught by one of the Wigwam Resorts guests, Mari Krause.

Mari is from Blaine, MN and is visiting us with her Father and friends.

Mari and her crew were fishing at the north end of Little Oak Island and she was using a leach with a hammered copper spinner with 2 pcs of a crawler. The story behind this beauty is this. They had just gotten to the site where they planed on dropping their lines and Mari's line was in the water first. Her line wasn't in the water for more than 30 seconds, before this monster struck. She had the Walleye in the boat in about 2 minutes her crew said...WOW that must be record time for a monster like that. I also need to add that this was Mari's first ever trip to Lake of the Woods. I asked her if she will be visiting us again, and she said, "ABSOLUTELY"! Congrats on the awesome Walleye Mari...I would love to see it after you get it mounted. Take care and thanks again for choosing the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods for your vacation destination!

Mike is from Hollandale, MN.

Mike was visiting us this past weekend with some friends of his (Jody Bissell of Austin, MN and Charlie Dresser of Albert Lee, MN).  Mike and his crew were staying with us in our campground this past weekend.  They caught this beauty of a Walleye off of Garden Island.  They said that it was the best day of fishing that they've had all year.  They stated that in 2 days they caught over 150 fish...WOW...that's awesome!  They were able to catch some nice looking perch, saugers and northern pike to go along with all their walleyes.  I hope that Lake of the Woods and the staff at the World Famous Wigwam Resort were able to show each of you what everyone that comes to the Wigwam Resort and Lake of the Woods raves about...the GREAT NORTHERN MINNESOTA HOSPITALITY AND FISHING!!!! Catch of the Day July 26, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice 22" Walleye caught by one of the Wigwam Resort's guests Landon Morsching.

Landon is from Mankato, MN and is up north working on a bridge on Hwy 11.

I had the opportunity of guiding Landon and his friends (Steve Van Alstine and Irene Shingobe) on Sunday, and we were fishing up on the southwest side of Garden Island whenLandon hooked into this beauty.  Landon was fishing with a hammered gold spinner and using a crawler as bait.  We were fishing in 8 to 12 feet of water and pulling them up one right after another.  At one point each of us had a fish on the line, all at the same time, and at another point I was holding two fish with each hand going to put them into the live well and Steve was netting another fish that Landon had caught...we had a blast! Once again, I kind of feel bad, because as much fun as they were having, I was having even more...is that bad? I just wanted to thank Landon, Steve and Irene personally for letting me take them fishing.  I hope that Lake of the Woods, and myself (Jean-Paul Tessier aka Wigwam Fisherman), were able to show you what everyone that comes to the Wigwam Resort and Lake of the Woods raves about...the GREAT NORTHERN MINNESOTA HOSPITALITY AND FISHING!!!!

Catch of the Day July 22, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice 28 1/2" Walleye caught by the Wigwam Resort's own Jean-Paul Tessier aka the Wigwam Fisherman.

Jean-Paul was fishing with a couple Wigwam Resort guests, Howard and David Weber when he latched into this nice Walleye.  He was fishing up on the northwest point of Little Oak Island.  He was using a hammered gold spinner with a crawler as bait. Thank goodness for Mr. Howard Weber or else this fish would have never gotten into the boat.  Just as this beast showed itself, Mr. Weber scooped it right up and the Walleye was just hooked by a little flap of skin in its mouth and had almost shaken itself loose.  This was a team catch and a great one at that!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice 18" Small Mouth Bass caught by the Wigwam Resort's own Tom Briggs.

Tom and I were fishing about 6 miles north of the Wigwam Resort on the US/Canadian border. We were fishing the rocks and looking for exactly what we caught...Small Mouth Bass! The Small Mouth Bass is a great fighter...it is one of the fish that I love to catch the most.  A 3 lb Small Mouth Bass will fight like a 6 lb Walleye...it jumps, dives, zigs and zags...what an awesome fish to catch! Tom and I were fishing in about 4 feet of water pulling spinner baits and Rapala crank baits to catch this great fighter.  I want to personally thank Tom for showing me around Lake of the Woods and teaching me some of what he knows.  I feel as if I'm getting another degree from a university and I'm getting paid to get my education.  Thank you form the bottom of my heart!

Catch of the Day July 4, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a 60 plus" Sturgeon, caught by one of the Wigwam Resort guests, Bre of the Tony Capra Group.

Bre lives in the Blain, MN area.

Bre was visiting us with the her co-workers and friends over the 4th of July weekend and all three days they were out in God's country, we like to call, Lake of the Woods.  Bre was fishing for Walleye up off of Rooty Point, which is just west of Garden Island when she hooked into this monster Sturgeon.  The night before that's all she wanted to catch was a Sturgeon and someone was listening to her prayers.  I for one have never seen a Sturgeon caught in that area of the lake, I'm sure it's happened before, but I've never seen it.  She fought this BEAST for over an hour and a half.  I was lucky enough to be there in another boat to watch it...it was amazing.  The Sturgeon must of jumped completely out of the water on three different occasions and Tom Briggs, their guide, tried to get it in the net twice with no luck, but the third time was the charm.  I know talking with Tom after, he had a blast and wanted to thank Tony Capra and their crew personally for giving the Wigwam Resort the opportunity to show you our little playground, aka Lake of the Woods.  Once again, Tom Briggs puts you on the FISH!  If you would like to have Tom put you on the Fish, call one of our knowledgeable staff members today and make your Launch Trip Reservation at (800) 448-9260...you can't go wrong!  I hope that all their expectations were exceeded as they visited us at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods and we are looking forward to their return.  Great Fish!!!!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a couple monster Walleyes, both measuring in at over 29".  These fish were caught in Lake of the Woods to the southwest side of Pine Island.

The Walleyes were caught by the team of Sean and Jeremy Westman, who participated in this weekends Spring North Star Walleye Classic.

Sean is from Andover, MN and Jeremy is from E. Bethel, MN.

The team was fishing to the southwest side of Pine Island...they wouldn't revel with what type of lure and bait they were fishing with...I can understand why.  Those babies were some Nice Fish!!!!!  I know I've said this before, but if this doesn't get your blood pumping I don't know what will.  Don't wait any longer...call now and make your reservations at the Wigwam Resort to start experiencing some of the best fishing in the world, right here on Lake of the Woods!

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a couple monster Walleyes, both measuring in at over 29".  These fish were caught in a secret location in Rainy River...they didn't want to reviel their honeyhole for fear of being followed on their second day of fishing the tourney.

The Walleyes were caught by the brother team of Brian and Jim Ney.

Both Brian and Jim are residents here in the Baudette, MN area.

Once again...the team wasn't interested in tell us where they were fishing, but I'm sure we will get it out of them tonight at the awards banquet...once again Nice Fish!!!!!  If this doesn't get your blood pumping I don't know what will.  Don't wait any longer...call now and make your reservations at the Wigwam Resort to start experiencing some of the best fishing in the world, right here on Lake of the Woods!

Catch of the Day May 14th, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was amonster Walleye measuring in at 30", which wascaught in Four Mile Bay, once again, right in front of the Wigwam Resort.

The Walleye was caught by Clayton Keister and netted by Jerry Riege.

Both Clayton and Jerry reside in the Twin Cities.

Clayton caught the monster on a 1/2 oz Chartreuse jig (is everyone seeing the common theme with the Chartreuse jigs?) with a rainbow minnow.  It was on their last pass of the day before they were heading in.  When Clayton handed me the camera to download the picture he was grinning from ear to ear.  Nice Fish!!!!!

Catch of the Day May 13th, 2009

The catch of the day for the Wigwam Resort was a nice 25" Walleye caught in Four Mile Bay...right in front of the world famous Wigwam Resort.

The Walleye was caught by Doug Hagen a former guide for the Wigwam Resort.

Doug is a resident of Graceton, MN, which is about a 25 minute drive from the Wigwam Resort.

Doug caught the Walleye on a 1/2 oz Chartreuse jig with a spot tail minnow that was actually spit out of another Walleyes mouth on a previous catch...all I have to say to that is WOW!  Doug had some help landing this monster by Doug Van Stone, who has been a long standing guest on the Wigwam Resort grounds.  Both were very surprised with the catch after using an already used minnow.  Both individuals will be competing in the Spring North Star Walleye Classic Tournament, which will be held this Friday the 16th and Saturday the 17th at the Wigwam Resort.
