Fishing Report 3-18-13
Greetings Fishermen!
And the snow keeps falling…and falling. We are currently under a winter storm warning until this evening, and the snow doesn’t look like it is letting up any time soon! In case you forgot, because the snow made you forget, SPRING starts tomorrow! Have you seen a robin?
The ice on Lake of the Woods doesn’t seem to care that Spring starts tomorrow, as we still have 30″! We are still getting the best bite out on the reefs in 30-34 feet of water near Bridges Island. Gold Disco Balls, Macho Minnows, Chubby Darters, and Buckshots are doing really well. Gold, pink, and glow colors are the go to right now. Today we had 12 people out there and they caught 98 fish!
I have heard a few people have moved in as close as 5 miles off shore, instead of 16 miles out. The fishing has picked up a little bit, but it is still not fast and furious. Fishing deep 30-34, still seems to be the best bet.
We are still catching quite a number of tullibee, and a few eel pouts. Northerns can be caught anywhere, but going closer to shore in shallower water, 4-10 feet, seems to be working pretty well with tip ups.
We are already into the third week in March, and see no near foreseeable end to the ice fishing! Last year, we were already in our boats, catching monster walleye off the river, and even into Four Mile Bay! Enjoy this extended ice!!
Happy Fishing!!
